Beware of begbugs!! The staff is in denial about the problem. Found 2 begbugs on the bed when I woke up. They keep telling me that the "test kits" are negative. Just lift the mattress! The bugs are as big as a small watermelon seed. I was only there 6 hours, from midnight until 6am and by then, it was too late.
This hotel contained just a whole mess of inconveniences. The biggest one was that the door on the other side of the hotel is an exit only, so you are unable to park over there to have closer access to your room, which really sucked since we had two heavy bags of SCUBA gear we had to bring not only upstairs but all the way to the other side of the hotel. There is no elevator so you have to use the stairs. They also padlocked the bathrooms by the pool/lobby which was really fun when my Husband was using our bathroom and I really had to go. Their breakfast is just absolutely horrible, even though they call it "deluxe". All carbs and not even any good selections of bread, donuts, or cereals. They didn't even have apple juice or something else to drink. Next time I will spend the extra money and go to the Country Inn & Suites instead of here if I end up coming back down. Also - they do not allow pets and have a ridiculous rule of a maximum of 4 people per room. Not sure if this is advertised on their website.
... stay for the Two Rivers Century Bike Race in Kankakee. The room was clean, towels plenty and fluffy. The beds were fine and our check-in and out was fast and easy. That was the important thing to us, we didn't book for luxury or extras. If you're looking for a 'spa-type' atmosphere, keep driving -- but that's no fault of the management or hotel. We did take advantage of the breakfast and were quite satisfied... but if you're looking for dinner in the area, there's not much other than fast-food or pizza. You'll have to head back to Bradley on I-57 to find other restaurants. Again -- not to the detriment of the hotel or our stay, just a HEADS Up to other folks who might consider an overnight stay. All in all, it suited our needs. Easy on/off the Interstate. Close to where we needed to be. Clean and Quiet for a Saturday evening stay. Thank you!!
Called & made our reservation for 2 adults & 3 kids. Upon check-in we saw signs stating max # of people per room is 4 (including kids). We point out the sign & they tell us it's fine since it's 3 kids. We get in our room & it's 2 queen beds for the 5 of us. I go down & ask for a cot. They only have 1 & it's already been claimed by another room. I ask if we can cancel because I'm not letting one of my kids sleep on the nasty floor. I was told that I could not cancel because it had to have been done 24hrs before. Like it's my fault for 1 of us not getting a bed or pullout when I made the reservation for 5. They then tell me I have to upgrade my room to a suite because that has a pullout sofa but I'm going to have to pay an additional $14 plus tax & fees. It's their mistake but I have to pay more money when it's already not worth what I've paid to begin with. Are you f*n kidding me?! The hotel is outdated. Even though the rooms say no smoking, the whole hotel smelled of cigarette smoke. Other guests were partying until 12:30 & kept opening & slamming their doors & yelling down the hall the entire night. Nice of them to wake the kids up when it should be quiet time. The continental breakfast was nothing like the other Howard Johnson hotel's we've stayed at. This hotel had stale bagels, doughnuts, make your own waffles, oatmeal, frosted flakes & raisen bran. We went out to get our own breakfast instead. We will NEVER stay here again!
We just needed a bed to sleep in overnight and a quick breakfast for the road so this was perfect. The room and bathroom were clean. The towels were soft. The bed could have been more comfortable, though. The price was definitely great. Morning breakfast was pretty minimal, although our daughter loved the fresh waffle. all in all I would recommend it.
I stayed there for my best friends wedding and i like it. My friends and i enjoyed it. We had fun and the beds were actually comfortable i was worried about that since my back hurts a lot , but when i woke up in the morning my back felt just fine and got a good night of sleep. The rooms were very nice and clean. Didn't find anything wrong with it, people who work there are very helpfull too and polite.
We booked this hotel via Hotwire for the last leg of our 10 day road trip from Saint Paul to New Orleans and back again. We needed a place to stay for the night while visiting with family in the area. We didn't need anything special as we would be spending less than 12 hours at the hotel. When we walked in we were greeted by the smell of old pizza and stale ciagrette smoke. The lobby/breakfast area has been littered with disgarded pizza boxes and a random car seat for a baby. The lady at the front desk was quite but polite. There was a dirty and deteriorating rug that led you from the lobby area to rooms on the left and the pool area on the right. We poked our heads in the pool area to see if there was a hot tub available. No hot tub but it did appear that they were using a portion of the pool area as a storage unit with things piled up on the left side. Our room was decorated with all the latest trends from 1974! Complete with peeling shell wallpaper in the bathroom, a musty teal recliner, dark wood end tables that were scratched up and a maroon bedspread. The room smelled like cigarette smoke and the ceilings were tinged from years of smoking despite it being a designated non-smoking room. Also, when we arrived at our room we found the door already open? Had we not booked blind via Hotwire we would have requested a refund and left after seeing the place but without that option we decided to make the best of it. Bad decision. We stayed out a little later than usual that night because we were dreaded having to sleep here. We were woken in the middle of the night thanks to our neighbors in the next room having a loud and colorful argument. Thanks to the paper-thin walls we were able to hear the whole thing. After a short while the argument escalated and spilled out into the hallway and ultimately in front of our hotel room door. With all the excitement of yelling, screaming, swearing, and shoving people up against our door we were on the edge of our seats! The police interevend at some point during the late night ordeal and they neighbors were finally escorted off the property a couple hours later. We decided to try and get a little sleep before setting out on a long day of driving ahead of us but left earlier than planned because of the whole deal. Overall, the hotel needs an overhaul. It's stinky, outdated and falling apart. Management needs to do a better job will upkeep and cleaning. I can't blame the hotel for our terrible neighbors but I do fault them for not getting the situation under control in a timely manner. I'll never stay here again and would not reccomend it to anyone. Even if you're just passing through it's not worth the hassle. I ended up paying around $75 through Hotwire. It's a low price but I think free would still be paying too much for this place.
This is our second time to stay here, and the staff is nice, even noticed we were return customers. The room was nice, but smelled as if it had just been cleaned, so we opened the windows to air it out and enjoyed our three night stay there. We have family in the area, and this is a convenient place to stay. There are cheaper places in the greater Kankakee area, but this one is a good value.
I like to take my grandkids on an overnite once in a while to stay at a hotel and swim. They really enjoy this. We had a great time. Breakfast was okay just enough to give the kiddos something before swimming again before check-out.
It's a HoJo's -- cheap construction, two-star appointments, but if that's all you need, this will be fine. The staff were neutral at best, icy at worst. I did get a good night's sleep, had a sufficient breakfast, and went on my way. However, when a friend offered me a spare bedroom, I jumped at the chance -- and HoJo's was kind enough to cancel my second night's reservation.
